  • SID Issue - Not Resolving

I have been experiencing SID problems with our current server and not sure, how to resolve the issue. When I try viewing the permissions of any file or folder I do not see the User or Group name but rather a series of numbers.

I added a snapshot in case my post wasn't understood as to the exact problem. It is making it impossible to troubleshoot profiles and what not not being able to see the users, groups etc.

    Thanks

I have seen this when the user accounts no longer exist. In my case the security had been set on shared data located on a data server, and the user accounts had been removed from the domain controller.

If you just have a few of these and the accounts do in fact exist this article may help:

Does the image come from a DC or is it a separate file server? Is the machine connected to the same network that the DC resides on?

I've also seen it when the Domain Controllers can't be reached or are not in time sync.

Re: SID Issue - Not Resolving

I've seen it when the server in question was communicating with a DC at a not well connected site (one reason to have ADS$S configured correctly) and I've seen it when the secure channel between the server and the DC is broken.

Re: SID Issue - Not Resolving

take one of the SIDs, and search the directory for it, see if it exists.
that'd be a good way to tell if the object no longer actually exists, or if it's a resolution problem.
