  • Can you bringing standalone domain controllers into one forrest?

Hi All, new to this forum and IT.

I have a question, I am working for a company who would like to setup about 40 Domain that will be standalone (for the time being) these will be Server 2008 R2 running in hyper V (nothing to complicated at the moment).

But in the future they might want to bring them all in under one domain/forest, (I guess Forest, I'm not a guru).

    My questions are these:

Can the Domains be brought together in the future?

If so what naming convention should I be the best to use for the future so that they can be brought togther in the future?

Any help or knowledge would me most appreciated, (the technical side is not as important as the concept at the moment).
    Many thanks

No they can't all be brought into the same forest if they're created in different forests.

What you can do is create them in the same forest from the start. You can create different domains in the same forest, for example:

    domainA.com

    domainB.com

The domain/forest you create first will be the root domain/forest, which can be empty if you like. You can then create your customer domains in that forest.
