  • Accessing shared folders using unc path

    Hello,

I created a shared folder on Windows server 2008 R2. However, i am unable to access that folder locally using the unc path. Its giving error 0x80070035 network path not found. i tried hotfix kb 958285 and that did not help.
    Any help is higly appreciated.
    Thank You

can you ping the server by IP address ?
    What about netbios name ?
    What about FQDN?

is this a workgroup, or domain ?
what type of client are you trying to access the share from ?

Re: Accessing shared folders using unc path

What are oyu actually typing when your trying to access the server??

      \\servername\sharename will need WINS

      \\servername.domainname\sharename will require DNS

\\IPAddress\sharename requires a good TCP connection.

Try them in turn and report back with which one fails.

Does this mean all three access methods fail?

If you ping the server by name from Win7, do you get an IPv4 or IPv6 address back?

Can you please post some more useful information like what exactly failed when you tried all methods that i posted??

Please do the following from an affected client

              ping servername >> c:\ping1.txt
              ping servername.domainname >> c:\ping2.txt
              ping ipaddress >> c:\ping3.txt
              ipconfig /all >> c:\ipconfigc.txt

From the server do the following

              ipconfig /all >> c:\ipconfigs.txt

Post the resultant text files as attachments here.
