  • Couldn't see computer in the Network Neighborhood

In the local LAN i have 2 Windows 2008 server connected to several PC consist of Windows XP and Windows 7.

My problem is inside the Network i couldn't see all the device that connecting to it.

    1. Workgroup is the same
    2. Network discovery is ON
    3. Turn ON file sharing
    4. I able to connect to other device using method \\ip_address
    5. Ping test to all the device is OK
    6. Computer browsing services - already start automatically

Any idea what else should i do??

Re: Couldn't see computer in the Network Neighborhood

If you open the Network and Sharing Centre and click 'View full map' near the top right-hand corner, do you see the devices on your network?

Have you tried turning the WINS feature on? This aids device discovery.

      Hi,

      Thanks for the reply,

On the view map, i only see another Server 2008, not the rest who using xp and 7.
To turn on WINS feature, does it on the server itself or the rest of the PC??

WINS is a server feature. Open server manager next to the Orb and use that to install it.

Re: Couldn't see computer in the Network Neighborhood

If you cannot see computers in the local subnet, it is unlikely to be the external firewall

Start with the Windows firewall and then, if needed, work outwards
Can you confirm if a WINS server is available (IPCONFIG/ALL will tell you)?

Re: Couldn't see computer in the Network Neighborhood

We know - that is why I asked you to install the feature on one of your servers.

Install the WINS feature and report back after a couple of hours.

ok wins server features already installed.

the pc not yet pop-up in the network.

do i need to put IP at the WINS, the server IP itself??

Re: Couldn't see computer in the Network Neighborhood

Have a look at the IP properties for each of your machines and add the WINS server entry. Alternatively, if you use DHCP you can update all the machines by adding the IP address of the WINS server to scope option 044. On the server that hosts WINS add the correct server IP and not 127.0.0.1
