  • MSI Distribution

    Well hello all
My environment include Windows server 2008 R2 and about 70- 100 Clients.
Clients are Win 7 x32 and x64 and Win XP.

I created new GPO software installation (Computers) to install MSI on all assigned machines.

What happens is .msi installed on all win 7 machines but not on XP.

Anyone knows about issues such as mine?
If so please direct me to relevant Hot Fix or help me with solution.

    Re: MSI Distribution

Start by checking RSoP and make sure the policy is being applied to XP
Also make sure there is no WMI filtering in place to separate the operating systems

Check event logs on the machines and try a GPUPDATE/FORCE

      Re: MSI Distribution

First of all let me thank you for your quick reply

There are no WMI filters assigned to the GPO.
I'm not to familiar with RSoP but I did manage to create a snap in via MMC and there are no records concerning my Policy.

after running GPupdate /Force the XP machine prompt for restart but no installation occur.
I printed out gpresult and it seems the policy is not assigned by filter but no filter applied.

      seems weird:

        Re: MSI Distribution

RSoP is Group Policy Results -- look at the bottom off the LHS of the Group Policy Management Console

From experience, GPOs seem to require a couple (more than one, anyway) reboots before always applying -- unless you tell people that in which case it applies instantly

              Re: MSI Distribution

              Sure thing !
The issue was that on XPs machines the time was wrong.
I mean not wrong but I needed to update it so the timezone will be same as on Server with Summer clock accounted.

              Failed due to:
Group Policy Infrastructure failed due to the error listed below.

The clocks on the client and server machines are skewed.

Note: Due to the GP Core failure, none of the other Group Policy components processed their policy. Consequently, status information for the other components is not available.

If you want me to send a picture via mail I will be glad to!.
For more info or anything just let me know.

I'm just in the first steps of networking but I truly hope that someday I could help other members of the forum as you helped me

                Many thanks!
Note a domain should not worry about time zones (computers can be in different ones and still talk OK as long as clocks are - default - within 5 mins of the PDC emulator FSMO holder) but if a clock is incorrectly set that will cause problems.
