  • From Windows Server 2003 DC to Server 2008 DC

Hi, we have a couple of 2003 DC's and I want to migrate to Server 2008 DC's. What is the best way to do this?

Assuming your domain is already running at the Server 2003 Functional Level, make new 2008 boxes member servers in the domain, statefully demote the 2003 boxes, make sure the metadata is clear of the old servers, then raise the domain functional level up to 2008.

Remember to ADPREP the domain before you promote the first 2008 (R2 I hope?) DC

Also to clarify the above, promote at least one new DC before you demote the old ones!
