How do I go about generating a certificate request file mainly for SSL VPN purposes on a single 2008 server. The server doesn't do IIS nor CA. It's basically a file server.

      Re: Certificate request

you cna generate form windows built in certificate MMC,

      http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...8WS.10%29.aspx

follow the guide "To use the Certificate Enrollment wizard with an enterprise CA", generate the CSR and send to your CA(cert4less, comodo, verisign...)

        Re: Certificate request

I tried the mmc method already but when I go to Request I'm getting a "select cert enrollment policy" with 2 options. One says AD Enrollment policy and the other is "configured by you". When I select the second I get a window which asks for Enrollment Policy Server URI and authentication type. This can't be right....
I tried tehcamel's link just not sure if it will work for the UK and why it asks for Organizational Unit if I want it to cover all the domain. The link led me to a couple of interesting locations so thanks a lot.

that's becaue you didn;t select advance operation...

1.In the Certificates snap-in, right-click the Personal folder, point to All Tasks, point to Advanced Operations, and then click Create Custom Request.

bah.. just put in what you want

            country UK
            state London
            city Westminster
            org Yaro37's Company
            Org unit Technical

(the Org Unit in this instance doesn't actually need to tie back to an actual OU in your AD..)

Advanced operations works for me but tehcamel's method is just so much quicker and simpler I can't even tell
