  • Backup Device Solution

Our HP 1/8 LTO2 Autoloader has a power failure. I thought it would just be a case of changing the power board but HP want to change the whole assembly for about 1k. It's not in warranty so now might be the time to look at other devices/systems, currently using Backup Exec 2010 R2

Our weekly backup is 6TB and I normally drop a set of tapes out every month and can go back a year.

I'm thinking of attaching whatever device we go for to our Windows 2008 R2 Standard File Server itself as that is where most of the data is.

Anyone has any recommendations, we are currently looking at a Quantum LTO5 drive and possibly going with a fibre channel connector

LTO5 is fastest on the market, max speed 140MB, native data 1.5TB.
have you ever consider backup-to-disk and disk-to-tape options...
i use Dell Equallogic and it is awesome!

comes down to budget as well.
And have you considered cloud.. ? :P
(throwing that out there mainly as a laugh.)

DDT is awesome yes, but expensive if you don't already have the SAN setup in place.
