  • DFS File Replication Fails

    Hello,

I am trying to set up file replication between two servers. I have followed the instructions from MS Technet...and all appears to be correct...but an error occurs.

Diagnostics says all is configured correctly. The error occurs on the connection...it says that access is denied. I searched Technet and everything there says to check AD, DNS, DFS Version, and firewall....all these check out and appear to be correct. I am running updates to get the versions to be exactly the same even though they both say version 6.0

Can anyone point me to somewhere else to look?

    Regards,
    Mike

Have you checked the permissions on the folders and shares you're trying to replicate? Make sure the systems have access.

Are you saying to give permission to the computer....or just to the "systems" entry? I am not sure how to grant access to a computer for another computer!!

        Re: DFS File Replication Fails

To give the computer permission, go to add a user like you normally would and when in the "Select Users or Groups" dialog box, click on Object Types... and put a check next to computers. You can then type in the computer name and give it permissions.

          OK
I set the permissions for each computer.
Tomorrow I will rebuild the whole replication from scratch and see what happens. I will keep this thread posted in case anyone else has a similar issue.
Thanks for the time and assistance.
          Cheers,
          Mike

              Re: DFS File Replication Fails

I have set up each replication folder with full permissions for each server machine. Replication still fails. In DFS Manager on the receiving machine, the error states that "access is denied" still. The only other error states that DFS replication services is restarting frequently (once a day) on the sending server.
So, nothing has changed by giving the systems permissions.

OK, can you give a little more information about your setup?
                AD domain?
Are you using a Domain Admin?
                OS versions?
Can you give specifics of shares, subnets and IP addresses?
                What document are you following?
Can you post specific errors from the event log?
                Regards,
                Jeremy

                  Re: DFS File Replication Fails

                  Jeremy,
                  Sorry..I have been away.
                  Anyway to answer some questions.
I have two servers both running Windows 2008 R2
I am trying to replicate a shared folder called Public from one server to the other.
When I setup the replication, it goes through the wizard and all looks good. When it tries to do a replication, the hub server gets an access denied when trying to replicate from the source server. Both systems are in the same IP schema. I can ping from/to each. I have set permissions on the source to allow the hub machine read/write.
                  Still getting access denied.

                      Re: DFS File Replication Fails

The event logs for both systems are:

On the receiving machine, which is bak01, I get a DFSR error 5002 Access Denied when communicating with partner fap01.
On the sending machine where the data is currently, which is fap01, I get a DFSR code 5004, Inbound connection has been established with partner bak01.

So the connection is working one way but not the other.....any ideas?
