  • 2008 R2 Standard: Net 3.5 Family Update Issue

    Hi,

I have built 4 virtual servers and am trying to install .Net 3.5 plus family updates on them.

The OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and I quickly discovered that you install .Net 3.5 as a feature so that was fine.

The problem came when I tried to install the "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for Windows Vista x64, and Windows Server 2008 x64 (KB959209)" i.e. the following updates in sequence:
    1. .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 - Windows6.0-KB958481-x64.msu
    2. .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 - Windows6.0-KB958483-x64.msu
    3. .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 - NDP35SP1-KB958484-x64.exe

Off the first two I got the error message:

"The update is not applicable to your computer"

    Off the last I got:

"None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup"

    Any ideas?

    Keke

There should be a separate version of the update for "Windows 7 and Server 2008R2" so the Vista/2008 version is (correctly) not required

I can't find any R2 update ... do you have any idea where it is?

Nor can I, so presumably it is not applicable!
Note the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959209 was from 2009 so I would guess fixed in 2008R2

Why not use WSUS/Microsoft update to get applicable updates?

Maybe ... TBH this (just before I posted) was the first time I ever heard of it.

It's an isolated network so I can't use that but I will run a Shavlik scan on it (Shavlik being what we use to do WSUS stuff).

          Thx for your help
