  • remote desktop licensing on 2008

    Hi everyone,

One of our 2008 servers is asking for remote desktop licensing server, isnt at least 1 remote desktop session permitted for server 2008? its on the domain as a DC too.

99% chance that i would have been setup wrong. past IT conceptions included that using 64bit halved your cpu cores as the cpus were added together.. lol

all i can find is information on buying licenses but we dont want a citrix style setup i just want to use remote desktop for maintenance instead of teamviewer.. lol

    Thanks

Sounds like you have installed the Terminal Server Role on the DC, which is not recommened.

You do not need the Terminal Server Rolls for a server to log on via RDP, only if you are using it as a TS, and then you MUST ahve TS CALs for it (This you can RDP into the console session).

If you only want Admins (and no more then 2 at once) logging on, remove the TS roles.
