  • Moving from windows 2003 print server to windows 2008 print server

First post, so bear with me. I have 3 Win2003 print servers currently and want to move to a Win2008 infrastructure. Also want to decrease server count by 1 if possible, but do not know how many printers I can safely use per print server.

This is an enterprise endeavor, with well over 2500 printers in play.

I do not want to jeapordize anythng by moving to just 2 print servers.

Any help along these lines will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Well, if 3 older servers are handling the load, I assume two more powerful newer ones will too

You don't say, but I think I can assume:
    All IP-based printers
    All at the same location

    Main issues will be:
2008R2 is 64-bit only, so you will need suitable x64 drivers as well as the legacy x86 drivers for clients. This will need a printer audit beforehand
How will you move users from the old server to a new one, with a different name -- deployment via Group Policy Preferences will make this easier, but will require a 2008 DC
