  • Rename Server

    Hi ,

We are using windows server 2008 Enterprise Edition , Implemented Domain Controller on this server . Now i want to just rename the server form the default name e.g WIN5xxxx.abc.com to server.abc.com

How can i change only the server name , no need to change the domain name.

Also if it is not possible to only change the server name , is it possible that i can create a separate a record in forward look up zone e.g server.abc.com --> 192.168.1.1 ( current server IP) so that my client can easily access from their start - Run --> \\server

    Please help...

    Thanks...

      Re: Rename Server

You'd definitely have a problem if you were trying to rename a server from it's default if sharepoint was installed on it though. I had to do that, and because the Sharepoint 2010 server was also the domain controller, that became a bit of an issue.
