  • DNS Help Please

I just installed a new Win 2008 R2 Server into my work network and unlike the old server DNS isn't working if I set the workstations to automatically obtain DNS info. I have tell each client the DNS server IP and then all works fine. On the server I have DHCP, AD, and DNS set up and active.

Can I get some help on having the workstations automatically obtain DNS info?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Please post an IPCONFIG/ALL from a client (with automatic DNS enabled)

        Re: DNS Help Please.

Its looking to itself for DNS
Check your DHCP options (either scope or server) and check DNS is the IP address of the server (probably 10.1.10.121) and is NOT set at 127.0.0.1

          Re: DNS Help Please

The guides I used to set up the server initially said to use the loopback IP but apparently that was wrong. Once I set the IP to the server IP and not the loopback IP on the server, the clients are working when set to automatically obtain.

          Thanks a lot.

Loopback address should be used on the server, NOT the client

              Re: DNS Help Please

as ossian said.. set loopback and DNS Servers for the server itself.

Your clients will obtain their DNS Server settings from tyhe DHCP Scope.
You need, if I recall correctly, option 6...
