  • block sites

    is there a way in windows 2008r2 ent in a domain environment to block sites such as facebook, twitter, other social networking sites.

    ex:
    i enabled blocking sites using my router but you can bypass it using https://facebook.com

    im hoping that i can do this using windows policy if not any suggestions is highly appreciated

    My suggestion,
    Buy a firewall eg sonicwall or cisco
    if you want to give it a try yourself

      You could use DNS to do this but it then becomes unmanageable.

        push everything through a proxy.
        use the proxy to block sites you don't want.

          Can you do it with the hosts file on each machine? just point facebook to your company's website? use a script/gpo/sccm to place it on the client machines.

            that last option is basically even more unmanageable tthan doing it via dns

              I have a memory that one of the NoIP type services offered web fltering (but cannot remember which one)Failing that your real option is a proxy server such as Forefront TMG

                  If your internet working through Server then try this hopfully it works....

                  C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

                  open in notepad and below 127.0.0.1 localhost add default gatway of your router and infront add website names (e.g.www.facebook.com)
