  • WS2k8 DNS - PTR records were not created

    Hi all,

Yesterday I found almost PTR records in Reserve Lookup zone were disappeared.

DNS & DHCP is intergreted, DHCP already be configured like:

    - Always dynamic update DNS A and PTR records
    - Discard A and PTR records when lease is deleted
    - Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates.

DNS is configured Scavenge stale resource records with 3 days

All my DCs is WS2k8 R2.

Did I miss something in configuration? Pls help me

(I found some similar topics in forum and sb advice to create manually PTR records, however, I have nearly 2000 clients, it is impossible for me to do like that).

I searched internet and found the solution for my case.

If anyone meet the same trouble, I hope it may help you.

My DHCP reported warning of Event ID 1506:

The DHCP service has detected that it is running on a DC and has no credentials configured for use with Dynamic DNS registrations initiated by the DHCP service. This is not a recommended security configuration. Credentials for Dynamic DNS registrations may be configured using the command line "netsh dhcp server set dnscredentials" or via the DHCP Administrative tool.

You can do it by two way:

    - Command line:

netsh dhcp server set dnscredentials User Domain Password

    - By DHCP console

    * Right click on DHCP IPv4 (I use this version), choose Properties

    * At Advance tab, click on Credentials button, input Username, Domain and Password

The user must belong to DNSUpdateProxy group.
