  • Network Policy Server - Session Duration (Server 2008)

    is there a way to monitor or run reports to determine session duration when using NPS as RADIUS server?

    Basically when users login through Remote Access VPN (using ASA 55xx) and authenticated by our RADIUS server (NPS) we'd like to monitor session duration. The NPS logs are not helpful and I do not see an entry specifying how long the user was connected.

    Our goal is to monitor whether users are regularly connecting and working.

    I'd appreciate recommendation and/or best practice.

    Thanks

    radius should be logging both log on, and log off, times
    then you just use some maths..

      @tehcamel

      Thanks for the response.

      I am looking for a product to parse the txt logs into report like format. I've tried using Sawmill but I do not see the login/logoff times for each user. I was surprised not to find it so I assumed it does not log that data. This would be surprising to me because RADIUS is suppose to have Accounting features (AAA)

      This is why I am looking for something else.

        I don't know how the event logging differs from 2003, but in 2003 Remote Access event 20194 summarises the details by quoting logon, logoff times and duration.

        I have not implemented NPS yet, so can't say any more.
