  • how to restore system volume using windows backup ?

    Hi

    I have a Windows server 2008 R2 machine (Dell 2900).
I perform a scheduled backup every day at 23:00 using the windows backup feature.
I choose to backup the following: C: (system) + D: (data) + system state. (I tried with bare metal as well).
I reboot the server with win RE CD or by pressing F8 on the pre boot stage to start the win RE console.
on the "system recovery options" window I click on "system image recovery"
then I try to restore only my C volume (system) without all the data, but I cant see the option to do this.
It only enables me to restore C:,D:
the D: volume contain 80GB+ of data so I dont need to restore it, just the OS in a case of OS failure.
did I do something wrong? is system OS restore even possible?

It's a system image right? If so it would restore both drives if D:\ isn't an External drive, you just need to backup C somehow.

      Hi,

As far as i know with WBADMIN OS won't be restored. Only data and systemstate after server is rebuild. means when you have os installed you can restore data and system state
      Thanks & Regards

If so, why does R2 Windows Backup include a "bare metal recovery" option?
