  • Copying a print file to a Server Share

My appologies if this has been posed before, but I've been searching the web all afternoon and can't find a solution.

For the longest time we've been able to use the following command inside the command prompt to send AutoCAD plot files to our plotter/printers without any problems.

    Code:
    copy plotfilename.plt \\server\share /b
But now I have two printers that are shared from a Server 2008 R2 box. Anytime that I use that command to send a plotfile to one of those printers it generates an "access is denied" message.

I can print to the same printer/plotter from inside applications (like Word or AutoCAD) directly, but every time I try from the command line, it doesn't work.

I've checked the permissions on the printer, nothing jumped out at me as being a problem.

    Anyone have a clue?

Are you using an administrative command prompt?

If I print from inside an application - like Notepad or Word - then everything prints.

If I try to copy a file - of any kind - to that share, I get the access is denied message.

I have two types of clients - Windows XP and Windows 7. From Windows XP the command works, from Windows 7 the command fails with the access is denied message. (My machine is running Windows 7, which is why I discovered it.)

What happens if you try the copy command on the server, not from a client?
Have you tried disabling the Win7 firewall?

Well it might be your lucky day, a reaction to the bump.
Have you tried: print /d:\\pserver\laser1 c:\letter.doc instead of the copy command?
