  • kill hung process in server 2008

My windows 2008 server shows many processes that are not really open so i am manually trying to end them. I open task mgr and try to end the process but it will not end. i try over and over and no change
The memory will not release and the paging file keeps going through the roof until it crashes. this happens until my server has rebooted.

any ideas or suggestions is it hardware or OS?

    thanks

Re: kill hung process in server 2008

Are you in a position to do a fresh install of Windows?
Normally processes should die (kicking and screaming maybe) when you kill them via task manager, so failing to do so suggests something far wrong with the OS

IMHO it is unlikely to be hardware (unless the keyboard is failing )

      hi,

What type of server role that you running on it and what all apps you have on it. Try a clean boot with all 3rd party services disable

Re: kill hung process in server 2008

it has application role and file server roles. the server is primarily a back up server that backs up our environment
we have a 12 disk external sata array attached to it.
        we run the following:
        Yosemite backup for exchange
Vranger from vizioncore to back up Virtual envi
ROBO copy to push raw data and sql backups
        and Double take.

It is a proliant Dl380 g7 dual quad core w 6gb of ram

        hope this helps

          Hi,

Based on your description what your server is experincing is memory leak [performance issues]

have you tried a clean boot? Just to test if your base OS has some issues.

          Then setup a poolmon

And it will be nice to post some more detailed info about those processes (something more helpful than
shows many processes that are not really open
) . And please explain what do you mean by "not really open".
