  • Software Protection service automatically stopped in 2008 servers

    Hi,

I have windows 2008 R2 servers. After fresh installation of OS, Software Protection service stopped automatically, I tried to start but it stops again and again.

So I marked that service to 'Manual' as our alerting system monitors 'Automatic' services.

But now my problem is, Sometimes Server gives Windows activation notification at login and I found Application Event Id: 4105, Source: WinLogon: Description: Windows is in notification period.

So as part of solution, Software Protection service requires in Start state on server.

Can anyone please help to fix Software Protection service issue?

Not sure why it would cause the activatoin screen to show.

    Have you activated the server???

      Yes, All servers already activated.

But what I guess that After installation of Windows Security patches server shows activation message for one time to each user.

      See attached screenshot file.

When we click on 'Get Genuine Now', I can able to login to server but this is not good that this windows comes on each months after Windows patch installation.

Re: Software Protection service automatically stopped in 2008 servers

I have been told of this happening to Windows 7 when some software was installed. I mention this since R2 is built on the same kernal as Win 7. Can't remember the software and can't contact my "informant" as he is away overseas.

As suggested above, contact Microsoft. They had a fix when this happened with Windows XP so maybe they have one for this as well.
