  • Replacing 2003 AD with 2008 R2 - same name?

I am planning on replacing a virtual 2003 SP2 AD server with a virtual 2008 R2 server. I want to name the new server the same name as the old server at some point and that is my question. I know I can rename the new AD server but when should I? I will have DHCP and DNS on the new server which is what the old server had - as well as the printers.
The reason I want to do this is to avoid having users install printers and also not to update any references to the old server through Cisco.
    Thank you

If you would be introducing W2K8 server. Let say you got dns, DS services running on the server then later renaming it. It may possibly cause a mess.

What you can do is a simple fix. once you plan to phase out your old w2k3 server you can create a alias record in the dns for your W2K3 Server which would be pointing to W2K8 server. This would solve the purpose of not having users install printers. About cisco router what kind of update is required ?
    Thanks & Regards
