  • Looking for recomendations on drive spanning

I can't seem to find anything definitive so what I am looking for is a recomendation on whether to span drives or just extend into contiguous space. We have an Enterprise level SAN so will never HAVE to span drives in windows but are there any drawbacks to doing so anyhow? Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking for recomendations on drive spanning

Extending (on the same physical disk / array) is reasonably safe from errors (once the process is completed). Spanning leads to the risk of a drive dying, killing the spanned volume (although data can be recovered from the good drives). IMHO avoid it.

@v2-nas I would have thought the answer was obvious -- increase the space available
