  • 2008 Group Policy

We now have a Windows 2008 Server within our environment, unfortunately not a domain controller however. We are looking at trying to utilise the new group policy features from 2008 and deploying them via our 2003 domain controllers - is it possible to design it on 2008 and then export to 2003 and roll out to our users?

Yes, my environment is currently setup that way. I recommend that you research using a central store by copying the the policy definitions to sysvol.

    Either way, it's completely doable.

      Re: 2008 Group Policy

Install the Windows 2008 RSAT tools and create your GPOs on there. This will allow you to then use the preferences. When you manage the group policies using GPMC, it uses the local admx files.

As mentioned, move the admx files to a share.
