  • Windows server 2008 in Windows 2000 domain without any roles/global catalog

    Hi,

We're migrating from a Windows 2000 server (DC) to a Windows 2008 R2 server (DC) (seperate servers)

We already updated the schema for the 2000 server to vers. 47 ( W2K8 ) and now we woul like to replicate the active directory to the new Windows 2008 R2 (after promotion) but without any FSMO roles/dhcp/dns/global catalog etc. We would like to migrate all of the roles another time so it's only for replication now.

    What problems can we expect?

having completed the same, more or less:

    None.

We created a new 2008 server. Elevated it to a DC, let it replicate for 2 days.
We then did the same at the DR site, let it replicate for 2 days, ensured all partners were replicating.

We then transferred roles, and demoted one server.
We then demoted the final 2000 server.

    then increased the functional levels.

    et voila, one 2008 domain.
