  • can only browse shared folder from hostname

When I open \\sqlserver from Windows Explorer, I am able to view shared folders on sqlserver
But when I try browsing using its IP, it asked for password and then failed when entered a credential
I also noticed that this server does not allow remote desktop despite having it eneabled.

First of all flush your DNS cache (ipconfig /flushdns). Next, check your DNS server entries and make sure the A record's hostname matches the IP address you are using. When you ping the IP address using -a what is returned?

      After ran ipconfig /flushdns
I ping hostname and made sure IP from details of Local area connection
Then ping -a to that IP (which I had failed to browse shared folder) that returned correct hostname
It still pops up login windows but failed to log in even with domain\administrator credential

Did you check the hostname's A record on the DNS server?

Is the host on a domain or in a workgroup? What are you using for DNS and DHCP (if you use the latter)?

Does the server have more than 1 IP addresses?
          Cheers,
