  • DNS issues . . !

    I am having a strange problem in that certain websites are unviewable in my network. These are tending to be subdomains, all of which are available out of our network.

    If I do nslookup on our server it returns the following:

    DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
    Default Server: Unknown
    Address: {IPV6}

    Is this a problem?

    Is there certain test procedures to determine what could be the issue? I have tried restarting certain services, such as the DNS server and DNS client with no luck.

    Thanks in advance.

    A couple of things:

    1. What you're seeing in nslookup is because you don't have an IPv4 or an IPv6 reverse lookup zone, which is OK as it's not required.

    2. Is your DNS server bound to the IPv6 ip address? If so, it probably doesn't need to be so you can disable that.

    3. Neither of the two things above is causing your problem.

    4. What does nslookup return when you query the problem domain?

    5. Does your DNS server user forwarders or root hints?

      Have you tried purging the DNS cache? If you are using root hints and not forwarders have a look at this kb article.
