  • Converting Mapped Drive of Storage From Basic to Dynamic is Risky ?

    Hi,

We have here Server 2008 R2 installed server, from IBM Storage (Model 3512) we have Mapped 300GB Drive Now the Space is Low on that Drive and we need to add some space to Same Drive from free space of our Storage !
I have gone through the IBM Support, they suggested for to Convert first this Basic disk to Dynamic then Expansion is Possible !
Please suggest If I convert Basic Disk To Dynamic will be a risky activity ? any chance of Data lose ?

Although not risk free, and you should always have a backup first, converting from Basic to Dynamic is a simple, straightforward operation that is very unlikely to go wrong.

If you have a backup all will work without any problems. If you don't have a backup then something will go wrong. See Murphy's Law. (Also known as Sod's Law) Also keep in mind O'Toole's Commentary on Murphy's Law.
      1 1 was a racehorse.
      2 2 was 1 2.
      1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
      2 2 1 1 2

IMHO there is very little risk to the data, but a backup is very important before you do it.
