  • Memory Issue

    Hi ,

We are using IBM X3100 M4 Server , We have installed 8 GB memory and windows server 2008 R2 64bit Standard Edition is installed on it. Before 2 days back , OS was detecting full 8 gb of memory and 8 gb is usable , now suddenly it shows only 2 gb is usable..

I check the full scan , and remove few viruses , restart the OS but it shows the same status.

What could be the issue , Is it because , that client has installed non licensed OS or may be some other issue..

    Thanks

HUH??? How is anyone supposed to make even a crystal ball guess without a more detail description of all the software installed and processes running? eg, does if have SQL installed? Is it a DC or Member Server; you know, things like that.

Have you even looked in Task Manager to see if anything there is sucking the memory?
Have you checked the Event Viewer logs for anything?
Do you have System Monitor running?

    2 2 was 1 2.

And, on top of what biggles77 has said, I would make sure the system is in full working order by applying updates, making sure it is registered and also by installing reputable security software. When you say 'remove a few viruses' how confident are you that the system is clean?

Once you are happy the system is setup as expected and is clean then you can start troubleshooting what the problem may be, if the problem still exists after you have completed these tasks.

Not clear whether "available" means "unused" - in which case follow advice above - or the visible RAM has changed. Screenshot please to clarify
Start with checking RAM in the BIOS to make sure the hardware sees all of it.

"A few viruses" on a server - WTF!

Does it now show 8GB of memory and 2GB Usable?
If it only shoes 2gb and 2 usuable have you checked to see if the ram is seated correctly?

as mentioned above have you checked to see what is using most of your ram?
have you installed any software that is heavily ram dependent?

            Rebuild the server.
