  • [newbie] 403 error when loading webpage from Apache WebServer (security?)

Having configured Apache HTTP Server 2.2 to read from C:\Apache, rather than from the default, I tried testing by loading Internet Explorer and typing http://localhost/test.html, however I got a 403 error. This happens on Windows Server 2008.

I set the directory permissions for C:\Apache to Everyone to Read and executve, List folder contents and Read.

Is this a security configuration problem?

    have you checked error.log and access.log ?

you may need to give specific permissions to the service account apache is running under, rather than just everyone.
You also need to ensure that when you apply permissions to C:\apache, the permissions are subsequently applied to all files and subfolders - this doesn't happen automatically, but there is a tick box to enable it.
