  • Server 2008 Deployment Services vs. Transport Services

I write as one with moderate knowledge of operating systems and new to server 2008. I have read a Microsoft Technet article that speaks about the choice between WDS and Transport Services. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771670(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_PXEBooting

Not sure if the article suggests that one can choose one over the other but my understanding was that both were necessary. Looking for guidance on what circumstances would select one over the other.

Re: Server 2008 Deployment Services vs. Transport Services

The transport server handles the comms side, wheras the deployment server handles the images. You can install the transport server on its own if you want to use a third party deployment option for example.
