  • DNS working but no forwards? HELP???

I just took over a new client and they have an 2008 server with AD/DNS/DHCP running on a 2008 Standard server.

The server is working, dns is works, but I'm at a loss to understand how.

If I look at DNS, there are no forwards setup under the properties window. The server is running DHCP, and when I do an IPCONFIG on any PC it only shows the servers IP address as the DNS server.

My question is this. How is this working?

I've never setup a 2008 server with a forward being set in DNS. This is now the second server I've seen setup this way and I'm at a loss to understand how DNS can work if there is no forward.

Root Hints are used if no forwarders are setup. This is probably the norm, in fact only SBS deployments ask for forwarders during installation.
