  • FTP Virtual Directory cannot be viewed

    Hello

I'm trying to set up an FTP server on our Windows 2008 Server (a DC).

I have created the root folder on the server for the site and have created a folder off that named Guest-Area. The Guest-Area folder is visible in the IIS6 management window, and is visible when I access the site through a browser.

Next I created a virtual directory off the main site (not from the Guest-Area folder) that points to a share on another server. When setting the permissions I chose to use the user's authenticated credentials.

When I use my browser to access the FTP site, I cannot see the virtual folder that points to the share on the other server. If I add the alias name to the FTP address, I get an 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' message.

Anyone have any ideas about this, please? I've followed the MS articles for this and according to those it should just work.

    Thanks!

Does it work if you change the permissions to anonymous?

      Thanks for replying.

When I right-click the site, choose Properties and select the Security Accounts tab, 'Allow anonymous connections' has a checkmark beside it.

I tried checking the box beside 'Allow only anonymous connections' but the shared folder is still not visible.

Note: This is not an internal FTP site. It is used for public access with username and password control through Active Directory. Sorry, I should have said that in my first post.

However, even if I type ftp://Phobos, only the Guest-Area is visible and as before adding the alias to the local address results in a page cannot be displayed message.

Re: FTP Virtual Directory cannot be viewed

I got a great answer from the IIS forums:

        http://forums.iis.net/p/1168744/1947389.aspx#1947389

The solution is to uninstall the FTP role service (which can only be used with IIS6) and install FTP7.5 that integrates with IIS7:

        http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/310/w...ft-and-ftp-75/

Just follow the instructions in hillb's post for handling virtual directories and you're good to go.
