  • Server 2008 R2 - NAT+VPN Setup Error Help!

    Hi,

We recently purchased a new server to replace our old Server 2003 DC. We installed Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition on new machine then carried out all steps to include it as a Member server then make it as a primary server by transferring 5 FSMO roles as per this MS KB article. We haven't yet done demote of old DC.

We used our old Server 2003 machine as NAT+VPN and would like to have the same on the new server. So, we shutdown old DC server and now we are trying to configure NAT+VPN on new machine, but we keep getting the following error message:

"An error occurred while trying to start the Routing and Remote Access service on <HOSTNAME>. For more information about the error, see Event Viewer. (Right-click the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop, and then click Manage. In the Computer Management console, click Event Viewer."
Within Event Viewer I see below error message:

Message: The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error A device attached to the system is not functioning..
    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Event ID: 7024
    Level: Error
    Another error:

    Message: Unable to load C:\Windows\System32\iprtrmgr.dll.
    Log Name: System
    Source: RemoteAccess
    Event ID: 20103
    Level: Error
I have verified that the path C:\Windows\System32\iprtrmgr.dll is valid and this DLL file does exist. As per MS Technet the DLLPath is pointing to the right location for both Ip and Ipv6.

How can we fix this error message?

I would really appreciate your help on this.

    Thanks and Regards,

I don't see any details on the device that's causing the error. Is there any way to find the device name or ID in the system that's causing this issue?

                Re: Server 2008 R2 - NAT+VPN Setup Error Help!

My problem got resolved by deleting following registry:

                Code:
                HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\currentcontrolset\services\remoteaccess\routermanagers\IPV6
