  • DFS Namespace Shared folder

    Hi All,

I am in the process of migrating a Server 2003 DFS infrastructure to Server 2008 R2.

I have an issue with one of the Roots/Namespaces.

The existing root points to a share which contains numerous folders for network applications none of the folders within the root are shared (i.e. they have not been created as folder targets) but they show up if you navigate to the root via UNC.

I did not set this up but it seems the share that the DFS root points to has been changed from the default dfsdata share to this applications folder

    Can I recreate this in 2008 R2

My concern is that the share for the root does not normally contain the actual data, and folder links are created to shares elsewhere. but to do this I would have to create hundreds of seperate shares, due to the folder structure in applications.

Can I create a namespace with the existing applications share as the local path of shared folder?

hope that makes sense to someone.
