  • Application Data Wormhole

One of our servers started to run out of space on the system drive. I found that Users folder takes up 3GB. All Users inside it take almost 2GB. Most of All Users size is Application Data, other folders are very small. The problem is that it's a junction and points to itself. Same thing with Administrator folder (~1GB). So where is all my space gone?
    Thanks for looking.
    Victor.

    Re: Application Data Wormhole

    Since we dont know
    a) the size of the drive
    b) the size of the other folders
    it is difficult to help
But some obvious starting points are hidden files and page files

Look for a product called (IIRC) Tree Size which gives you a graphical view of your file system and may point you in the right direction

Yes, but how big are your Windows, Program Files etc folders?
All we know now is that you have a 40Gb drive with 1.7Gb free and "All users" is 12.2 GB

          Re: Application Data Wormhole

To clarify, on that screenshot I selected all files in the root folder, to show that they totaled to just 12.2 MB, not a significant amount to be considered.

The operating system is a Windows 2008 R2 (x64) Enterprise virtual host.
          Program Files - 152 MB
          Program Files x86 - 154 MB
          Users - 3 GB
          Windows - 10 GB
I doubt I can do much about program files and Windows, I decided to focus on cleaning the Users folder.

Wow, it is such a great tool! Quite weird though, because I can see the space is mainly used by 3 items: Windows, Hyper-V snapshots and pagefile. Users folder is not even close to top taking only 27MB, and about the same thing for AppData! Thanks Ossian & Dumber.
