  • Multiple KMS servers in a single domain

Hi this is the first post for me in this forum and I have a question that I'm hoping I can get some help with.

I have a single Windows 2003 domain that I want to eventually have multiple KMS servers on. I currenlty have a single Windows 2008 R1 server providing KMS services and it registered the _VLMCS.tcp record in DNS. I added another KMS server (Windows 2008 R2) but it didn't register itself in DNS. The evet log on Windows 2008 R2 server says the following:

"Publishing the Key Management Service (KMS) to DNS in the domain.net
    ' domain failed."

I need direction on where to "set the permissions for the SRV group to allow updates by members of the global security group" as described in the Volume Activation Deployment Guide for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have a post on microsoft's technet forum asking for help but haven't back from the msft guy.

I also found this post in this forum but there was no final answer given.

    Any help would be appreciated.

How big is your Domain and do you think you really need multiple KMS Servers in it?

      Hi biggles77,

I'd like to have a KMS server at each of my sites.

It is totaly unnecessary and frankly a waste of resources. This has been one of the better bits of info I have found. http://trycatch.be/blogs/roggenk/arc...nt-server.aspx
