  • Remove Libraries & Favorites in navigation pane in Server 2008 R2

    Hi,
    By default, Windows Server 2008 R2 does not provides Group Policy to disable or turn off Favorites and Libraries feature in Explorer. You can modify registry key to hide them.
    Note: Please backup the key first.
    1. For Favorites, the key is:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{323CA680-C24D-4099-B94D-446DD2D7249E}\ShellFolder]
    "Attributes"=dword:a0900100
    Changing a0900100 to a9400100 will hide Favorites from Navigation Pane.
    2. For Libraries, the key is:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}\ShellFolder]
    "Attributes"=dword:b080010d
    Changing b080010d to b090010d will hide Libraries from Navigation Pane.
    Note: You need to take ownership the ShellFolder before changing the value of Attributes.
    Regards,

      These changes worked for me, but not 100%.
      I want to remove the libraries an favorites from anyone using terminal services or more specifically REMOTE APP.

      With the reg changes above, it works for the admin account logged into the server, but Remote App users still see this option.
      Any ideas?

        When I configure the GPO “force classic start menu”, all users have the icons “Libraries” and “Control Panel” available on the desktop.
        You can fix this problem to delete the following resgistry keys:

        Remove the Libraries icon from the desktop
        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}]
        Remove Control Panel icon from the desktop
        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}]
        [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{5399E694-6CE5-4D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}]

            Can you please post plain text files (not with a .reg) extension or a zip
