  • Server 2008: dns test passed but warning in dcdiag test

    Folks:

    Migration:

    1) single domain
    2) only one dns server in the domain.
    3) no integrated dns zones
    4) only one NIC per machine
    5) testing in vmware server 2.0

    I have migrated server 2003 SP2 to server 2008 std SP1 and transfered all the FSMO roles to server 2008. and left for replication 1.5 hrs.
    before i demote server 2003 I ran Netdiag in server 2008 to make sure all going well?

    Case(1)netdiag result before ip change..txt

    server 2003 ip address: 10.10.1.10(prefered dns is 127.0.0.1)
    server 2008 ip address: 10.10.1.20. (prefered dns is 10.10.1.10)

    My netdiag results 2008 dc gave me strange result;
    Dns test: passed
    [warning] the dns entries for this dc are not registered correctly on dns server '0.0.0.0'. please wait for 30 minutes for DNS server replication.{{{{{ why i am getting this warning in server 2008 dc}}}}}

    Pass - all the dns entries for Dc are registered on dns server 10.10.1.20( server 2008 dc ip addres) and other dcs also have some of the names registered.

    CASE (2)::netdia after ip change.txt:: I changed ( reversed ) IP address 2003 to 2008 and 2008 ip to 2003 ip.

    again I ran netdiag in server 2008 dc,

    Netdiag DNS test straight away failed.

    Please open my attached test results and advise me to fix this issue.

    I am taking this steps to my production on Friaday evening,

    Plz plz tell me the Fix.

    thanks in advance.

    Try running netdiag /fix.

    Reboot your server.

    Get your gateway address fixed as well as it can't get to a gateway, or is that as you expected.

      Folks

      I figured the why it was trying to register in 0.0.0.0.

      This was an ipv6 issue, when you install additional dc the server 2008 ipv6 dns need an STATIC IPV6 address, if you check this box for an automatic ,then you will be solved and all the tests were passed.

      go to , network properties>> select ipv6 >> select properties >> check for automatically obtain ipv6 dns.

      cheers and chill out
