  • In-place migration Win2K to Win2k8.

    Hi,

We're considering upgrading one of our server (which is running Windows 2000 Server SP4) to Windows 2008 Server STD. I know in-place migration cannot be done from 32bits to 64bits, so we're considering upgrading the 2000 Server to 2008 Server STD 32 bits.

The 2000 Server is not a DC and the 2008 Server won't become a DC yet. So this is kind of basic migration but everywhere i read about it, it says it's impossible to do in-place upgrade (but it's always related to AD).

Maybe someone could refer me to technet or something (been searching but cannot find anything about it...) hehe

    Best regards,

    trep

I'd believe you have to upgrade to Windows 2003 first...

However, is your hardware still good and fast enough if it's still running on W2K?

I don't believe that it's possible to upgrade from W2K to W2K8, regardless of the role of the server.

Forget the software mess, you dont want to put win2k era hardware on win2k8.
