  • User environment from 2008 Server

I am setting up a new 2008 server to take over our PDC role. The current server has a lot of login scripts running from user profiles. Some are .BAT; others .vbs - I didn't set them up and it's going to take a long time to sort through them all. Mostly these scripts map drives and set up printers.

I'd like to get rid of them all but I need advice. How is this best handled in 2008 R2?
Should I be looking at Kixtart or just sticking with simplified .BAT and .vbs and using GP to look after them? I read somewhere that scripts are not considered good practice on a Server these days. Is this true? If so, how can I do this? Roaming profiles are set for a few users but this is a school environment with 1000 users . . .

Thanks for your time; it's much appreciated.
