  • Slow!!! 2008 R2 DNS

I inherit two fast 2003 86x DNSs, for 5 years now. Since the hardware do support 64-bit architecture, I formatted the same hardware and install Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 instead (installing one after the other, to be able to transfer the AD data & DNS records). Exactly after demoting the second server (2003 BDC) I notes-ed the slowness of the New 2008 R2 DNS (when browsing, the lockup takes from 4 up-to 10 sec.)

Any help in restoring the DNS lockup speed (around one second), is appreciated.

    TIA

      Re: Slow!!! 2008 R2 DNS

I did not change any of the setting for both.

      What I inherited is, Master DC1 (2003 R2) & DC2 (2003 R2) BDC (Backup).

What I did, dcdemote the DC2 (2003 R2) and fresh install 2008 R2, and install AD & DNS rolls and perform the five commands to set it as Master DC2.

Then dcdemote the DC1 (2003 R2) and fresh install 2008 R2, and install AD & DNS rolls and perform the five commands to set it as Master DC1, so automatically 2008 R2 DC2 set as BDC (Backup).

          Re: Slow!!! 2008 R2 DNS

I did not set them (NIC & DNS) in first place.

          I just migrate them.

If there are any specific setting U like to know, just point them and I'll post them!

How are your DNS settings setup on the NIC card??

Do you have forwarders enabled in DNS???

              Re: Slow!!! 2008 R2 DNS

The problem was, the two internal DNSs got their IPs forwarded to each other as the first IP and the ISP as the second (in the Forwarders tab). I just removed their IPs from the list and kept the ISP.

Now the DNSs running as they should be.

Thanx to everyone how tried to help.
