  • Server 2008 cannot browse NTFS shares

I have an IBM x3650 server running 4 VM's using Hyper-V. It's setup as follows:

    1) Host Server running Server 2008
    2) VM #1 (APP) Server 2k3
    3) VM #2 (DC) Server 2k3
    4) VM #3 (TS) Server 2k3
    5) VM #4 (File Server) Server 2k3

My issue is, When I browse to a share on VM #4 from my Host (using a domain admin account) via: \\vm4\share

I only get a partial list of the directory. Instead of displaying DIR #1-15. I only get DIR #1-6 normally. (Note: DIR = Directory)

Now, the wierd part is that I can 'brute force' my way into say DIR #7-15 by constantly hitting F5 on the Windows Explorer window.

When spamming the f5 key to refresh Sometimes I get:

    1) Only DIR #1-6 displayed
    2) Only DIR #1-6 along with Blank files representing DIR #7-15
    3) Permission denied on the share
    4) ALL Directories displayed not allowing me to enter DIR #7-15
    5) ALL Directories displayed allowing me to enter DIR #7-15

Since I run daily backups from the Host computer on these shares you can see why this is a problem.

Note: \\vm4\share is part of a DFS structure, however this problem is present if I access it via share name or by DFS share name.

    ===============================

    Things I have tried:

    -Updating NIC Drivers on Host
-Creating a new folder/share within \\vm4\share and the problem remains and add this new directory (# 16) into the list of directories that I cannot view correctly.
-Accessing this share from the clients PC's are fine, (ie. Windows XP & Server 2003)

Does anyone have some suggestions for me to try?

    Thanks
