  • Additional driver on a Windows Server 2008 64 bits Print Server.

    Hi,

It started all with preparing a printserver migration from Windows Server 2003 x86 to Windows Server 2008 x64.

I have problems with adding additional drivers to my 64 bits printserver Windows 2008.
When i want to add a x86 (32bits) driver for printers it starts to install the files from de Downloaded Drivers Map but after a while i get the question to provide the NTPRINT.INF file from the media X:\i386.

Some 32 bits printer drivers don't ask for this media others do.
For a lot of my printers i can't find Windows 2008 drivers.
    - HP Color LaserJet 3500
    - Xerox Phaser 6250DP

My problem is that clients need this 32 bits drivers.

Also Windows Server 2008 R2 will be only 64 bits.

    What can i do?

    in this thread:
http://forums.petri.com/showthread.php?t=39174 someone gave me some advice on how to push drivers up to an x64 server when x32 drivers are needed. Sure, the link is related to SBS, but I'm sure the concepts and ideas are the same.

Take a look at that and see how you go

If you have to deploy printers with GPO to a lot of workstations than install the drivers local is not an option....

no, that's not what I meant.

        Pick ONE workstation.
install the drivers on that workstation
Push the drivers UP to the server
then they should be available for other clients

based on that article i linked
