    Title: Network connectivity on windows server 2008 is working only one way (From server to LAN, internet)

    Description:
    All it started with windows activation genuine error when the server got restarted unexpectedly, we restarted the server again to check whether windows activation issue go away but it didn't than we have activated the server again.
    Now noticed "Connection status: unknown The dependency service or group failed to start" when moved cursor on network icon (Red X) DVD ROM on the server is also not working now.

    Environment
    OS - Windows server 2008 enterprise edition (64Bit) service packs 2 and all latest patches, updates
    Role - Member server, File server, Hyper-V server, Backup server (Symantec backup exec 12.5) service pack 2
    Application - McAfee Virusscan 8.5
    Firewall - currently windows firewall is off as firewall service not starting
    Hardware - Dell 2950 power edge

    Network connectivity
    Speed - 1Gb two network cards (inbuilt on server motherboard)
    Protocol - IPV4
    IP Address - fixed IP
    IPConfig results

    Domain environment
    Domain controller, additional domain controller,

    Event log, error details
    - The system has been tempered HR=0xc004D301


    Recent changes
    Installed microsoft windows updates
    Installed symantec backup exec hotfixes

    Things we have tried to resolved the issue.
    - sfc /SCANNOW to repair issues with system files but sfc not able to fix error
    - Scan server for virus/spyware/trojan/malware, found generic.dx Trojan
    - Reinstall network card driver
    - Updating network card drive
    - Use second network card
    - Replaced server motherboard to confirm that network card is not faulty
    - Replaced faulty DVD ROM
    - Started server with Live Linux cd to check connectivity from server to client and server to client, with Linux connectivity was working
    - Uninstalled recent windows updates
    - Uninstalling symantec backup exec hot fixes but this hot fixes can't be uninstalled as said by symantec
    - Run ms malware removal tool
    - Start windows in safe mode, safe mode with networking
    - Starting network location awareness service but it throws Access deny error 5
    - Checked windows services owner configuration
    - Restore default security settings
    - Uninstalled McAfee anti virus

    While you only have 1 post, I suggest you change your Username to something that doesn't have your email to identify you. The email bots will harvest your name and you will get bombarded with all sorts of spam.

    If you do change your Username (and the choice is yours) then please repost the question again. It will not be viewed as a double post.
