  • Upgrade to 2008 R2

I have a machine running Windows 2008 Server x64 with Hyper-V. I am looking to upgrade to 2008 R2 and Hyper-V R2. Is there an order I should do that?

I would say that you are best upgrading to R2 OS first by reviewing this.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957256

You can then look into upgrading to Hyper-V R2.

      I didn't realized that Hyper-V R2 was bare metal....so I don't think I'll be upgrading!

There are two versions. I believe the R2 Hyper-V is there when you upgrade.

        This is worth a read.

The bare metal one is the free edition.

Unless I am mistaken, I don't see where you can upgrade a 2008 R1 server with HyperV to Hyper-V R2.

As far as I can tell from this MS website you can ... I'm going to try it tonight so I'll report back tomorrow.

That is the free one much like ESXi. Not just the HyperV role. I'm looking to use all the new features of HyperV R2 on my existing 2008 R1 server. I don't think that is possible. (yet?)
