  • VMWare Workstation as a service in Windows server 2008

    Hello,

I fail to run VMWare Workstation guest machine as a service on Windows Server 2008 host.
On Windows 2003 this is no problem with Instsrv.exe and Srvany.exe.
But on Windows Server 2008 there is no Srvany.exe. When i try to apply the same procedure as on windows 2003 server, use srvany.exe from the windows 2003 resource kit, the service can be installed, it can be started, but both, the data exchange between service and desktop and the service functionality are not running.
When I simply apply the Sc.exe command to create the service on Windows 2008 server, the service is installed, but it fails during start with the error message:
"Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
This happens with system account as service login account as well as the local administrator account as service login account.
    VMWare Workstation 6.5.1 build-126130
    Windows Server 2008 SP1

Are you sure it works on Windows2008? Have you made any experiences? I don't want deinstall the VMWare workstation, install the VMWare server with the result it doesn't work again.
