  • Windows 2008 cannot make FTP connections

I have been trying to resolve this issue for days now. I Cannot connect to any FTP site via cmd prompt, windows explorer or internet explorer. Port 21 is open on the firewall. I found that many other people are having the same problem.

Re: Windows 2008 cannot make FTP connections

In cmd prompt i simply typed ftp an then o ftpsite.co.za

The weird thing is that with my Win08 running in vmware i can make connections fine to ftp sites. This server is also a member of the same domain.

So the machine itself fails but the other vmware machine can connect fine?

Is the machines both virtual and non connected to the same switch/rounter?

The the machine with the problem is on a physical LAN.

There are 3 servers all together belonging to the same domain. 2 is Win 03 and the 1 with the problem Win08. I had the same issue on one of the Win03 servers last week but after applying hotfix KB933566 the issue was resolved.

They all connect via the same router on the LAN, but The virtual server is on a LAN here at my home lab.

To me it sounds that the local firewall is blocking the traffic...

The same thing happens with the Firewall disabled.

Do you have NAT policies setup in your firewall to send port 21 traffic to a particular address???

                    Issue resolved.

Very weird. I am just using a different gateway and its making FTP connection now without any problems.

Two other servers using the gateway 10.0.1.10 is not having any FTP connectivity issues but the Win08 server had. Im using a gateway at 10.0.1.4 for the Win08 server now and its making FTP connections without any issues.
