    Hi All

    thanks a lot in advance

We have a network of 100 users with Windows 2003 (AD), we need to migrate to a new Windows 2008 box

    1. Migrate all accounts and policies from 2003 to new 2008 server
    2. The new server should be renamed to different domain name but the user accounts remain the same
    3. No downtime allowed

Can you guys share your views, how to go about it..It would be great to hear from the community

Why not just upgrade to W2K8 instead of doing a migration?

      Have to agree with joeqwerty

Why are you wanting to create a new domain?

Install Windows Server 2008 to a new server
Run ADPREP forestprep, domainprep, gcprep on the 2003 DC
      Install the ADDS role
      Run DCPROMO
Transfer all FSMO roles to your new server

      Wait for replication to occur

      You can then

      a) Decommission your old 2003 server and stick with your new DC (not recommended as you really need redundancy)
      b) Format your 2003 DC and install Server 2008 and configure as a second 2008 DC

If required you then upgrade your forest function level to 2008

All of the above will complete the whole process with no downtime to your users
