  • Managing 2008 server with 2003 Group Policy

What do I have to do to a 2003 R2 server to enable it to manage a 2008 server with Group Policy?

I gather ADM's have now changed to something else? ADMX?

Is there some sort of prescribed upgrade steps?
or a Microsoft update that I should be applying?

    Is this even possible?

    Any traps for young players?

You don't have to do anything. A W2K3 DC can manage a W2K8 server just fine. The only thing you don't have are any GPO settings that are specific to W2K8. If you're really intent on using W2K8 GPO settings then you should:

    1. Run /forestprep, /adprep, and /gpprep (mandatory)
    2. Upgrade your W2K3R2 DC to W2K8 (mandatory)
    3. Upgrade the forest and domain to W2K8 native mode (optional)
    4. Create a central store for GP (optional)
    4. Remove all ADM templates (optional)
